Offcuts is an exhibition of sculptural art and furniture pieces by Garrett Lark and Alex Lark primarily made of the solid oak offcuts generated from the studio’s main furniture collection. Informed by the discarded material, the pieces celebrate the organic nature of matter and the playful reimagining of structures.

Participants
Garrett Lark
Garrett Lark (b. 1990 Melbourne, Australia) is a furniture designer and sculptor based in Melbourne. Driven by a tactile intuition and intimate understanding of materiality his work draws inspiration from the rich native flora of the Australian landscape.
After receiving his Master of Landscape Architecture from Melbourne University in 2017, Garrett shifted his focus from larger-scale projects to functional objects, most notably his furniture pieces, created through his company with his brother, Made Studio. As Director and Head of Design at Made Studio, Garrett’s pieces have been featured in leading architectural and interior design projects across every major city in Australia.
Alex Lark
Alex Lark (b. 1992, Melbourne, Australia) is an artist and designer based in Melbourne. Lark’s work explores the subjective nature of human experience through a phenomenological lens, experimenting with materiality, colour and perception.
Alex received his BA in Visual Arts from Duke University in 2015, where he graduated with the Highest Distinction in Art History & Visual Arts. From 2015-2022, he worked extensively across art, design, film, photography and architecture industries based between USA and Germany, establishing ongoing collaborative partnerships with international artists and creatives. In recent years Alex has been based in Australia, completing his Master of Contemporary Art from the VCA in 2024. Alex is the Creative Director and co-owner of Made Studio with his brother Garrett Lark.
This event is part of Melbourne Design Week 2025, an initiative of the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria.
