Scraps is an exhibition of sculptural art and furniture by Made Studio, featuring pieces made primarily from discarded textile and timber materials collected during the studio’s everyday making process. A natural evolution of last year’s debut, Offcuts, these reimagined designs give life to a patchwork of scrap materials.

Featured works in the exhibition include pieces by Garrett Lark and studio team members Cam Morgan, Munro Hall and Matisse Piccolo curated by Alex Lark.

Participants

Garrett Lark

Garrett Lark (b. 1990 Melbourne, Australia) is a furniture designer and sculptor based in Melbourne. Driven by a tactile intuition and intimate understanding of materiality his work draws inspiration from the rich native flora of the Australian landscape.

After receiving his Master of Landscape Architecture from Melbourne University in 2017, Garrett shifted his focus from larger-scale projects to functional objects, most notably his furniture pieces, created through his company with his brother, Made Studio. As Director and Head of Design at Made Studio, Garrett’s pieces have been featured in leading architectural and interior design projects across every major city in Australia.

Alex Lark (Curation)

Alex Lark (b. 1992, Melbourne, Australia) is an artist and designer based in Melbourne. Lark’s work explores the subjective nature of human experience through a phenomenological lens, experimenting with materiality, colour and perception.

Alex received his Master of Contemporary Art from the VCA and BA in Visual Arts from Duke University, where he graduated with the Highest Distinction in Art History & Visual Arts. From 2015-2022, he worked extensively across art, design, film, photography and architecture industries based between the USA and Germany, establishing ongoing collaborative partnerships with international artists and creatives. In recent years Alex’s practice has been based in Australia where he is also the Creative Director and co-owner of Made Studio with his brother.

Cam Morgan

Cam Morgan is a furniture designer and director of Studio Backcountry. His practice is characterised by a foregrounding of materiality, creating objects that are both functional and artistic in nature. By drawing on the principle of simplicity, Backcountry’s forms express a softness, clarity and a sense of charm.

Munro Hall

Munro Hall is a designer and maker from Aotearoa, New Zealand. His approach to design focuses on reduction and precision, shaping objects that highlight the inherent character of their materials. The resulting work is understated yet intentional, with a refined sense of simplicity.
